According to the 2010 Korea National Statistical Office’s death statistics, approximately 26,500 people died from stroke (53.2 per 100,000 population).

·The annual incidence of stroke is 16 per 100,000 people (213 for men, 220 for women).

· Among those under 44 years of age, it is as low as 20 cases per 100,000 people per year.
· In those aged 85 or older, there were 3,297 cases per 100,000 people per year.
· By type of stroke, in 2009, ischemic stroke accounted for 76.1%, and hemorrhagic stroke accounted for 23.9% of all strokes.
· According to the 2005 National Health Survey, the lifetime prevalence of stroke diagnosed by a doctor among adults aged 19 or older was 15.9 per 1,000 population (16.44 for men, 15.37 for women).
