The New York Times (4/9, Pager) reports New York City “declared a public health emergency following a measles outbreak in ultra-Orthodox
Jewish communities in Brooklyn.” Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that unvaccinated people in Williamsburg, Brooklyn would be required to receive
measles vaccinations to stem the outbreak.
The AP (4/9) reports “the order applies to anyone living, working or going to school in four ZIP codes in the neighborhood and requires all unvaccinated
people at risk of exposure to the virus to get the vaccine, including children over 6 months old.” Under the order, people who refused to be vaccinated “could be fined $1,000.”
