■ 로타바이러스 감염 백신 예방접종의 개요

● 로타바이러스는 소아청소년들, 특히, 영유아들의 위장관에 감염되어 설사, 복통, 탈수, 구토, 열 등의 증상을 동반하는 바이러스성 위장염을 일으킬 수 있는 가장 흔한 바이러스의 일종이다.

● 1998년에 로타쉴드(Rotashield vaccine) 예방접종 백신이 개발되어 로타쉴드 백신으로 로타바이러스 감염성 위장염을 예방접종했다. 그러나 로타쉴드 백신으로 예방접종 받았던 소아청소년들의 50,000~100,000명 중 1명꼴로 장중적증이 발생됐었다.

● 1999년 이후부터 로타쉴드 백신 예방접종을 더 이상 권장하지 않았다. 그 후 새로운 연구결과로 2006년 2월에 로타바이러스 위장염을 예방할 수 있는 새 백신 “RotaTeq(Rotavirus Vaccine, Live, Oral, Pentavalent)”이 새로 개발되었고 2010년에 Rotrix 백신이 새로 개발됐다.

■ 로타바이러스 감염 백신 예방접종의 방법

● RotaTeq 백신(PRV/Pentavalent rotavirus vaccine)을 생후 2, 4, 6개월에 1, 2, 3차 접종, 총 3차 접종받아 로타바이러스 감염으로 생기는 위장염을 예방해 주도록 권장하고 있다.

● Rotrix 백신으로 1차, 2차 접종해서 예방접종 받는다.

● 로타바이러스 예방 접종은 모든 영아들에게 접종하는 기본 예방 접종이다.

● 권장한 대로 생후 2, 4, 6개월에 각각 1, 2, 3차, 총 3차 접종해 주지 않았을 때는 1차 RotaTeq 백신은 적어도 생후 6~12개월에 접종해 주고, 그 다음 2차 예방접종은 1차 접종해 준 후 6~12주에 접종해주고 3차 접종은 적어도 생후 32주 이전에 접종해주라고 권장한다.

■ 로타바이러스 감염 백신 예방접종의 부작용

● RotaTeq (Rotavirus Vaccine, Live, Oral, Pentavalent)백신으로 예방접종을 받으면 심한 로타바이러스 위장염이 거의 100% 예방된다.

● 경미하게 열이 날 때도 예방접종을 받을 수 있고

● 모유를 먹는 영유아도 RotaTeq 백신으로 예방접종받을 수 있다.

■ Overview of Rotavirus Infection Immunization

● Rotavirus is the most common virus that can infect the gastrointestinal tract of children and adolescents, especially infants and young children, causing viral gastroenteritis, which is characterized by diarrhea, abdominal pain, dehydration, vomiting, and fever.

● In 1998, the Rotashield vaccine was developed to prevent rotavirus gastroenteritis. However, intestinal hemorrhage occurred in approximately 1 in 50,000 to 100,000 children and adolescents vaccinated with the Rotashield vaccine.

● Rotashield vaccination has been discontinued since 1999. Subsequently, new research led to the development of a new vaccine, “RotaTeq (Rotavirus Vaccine, Live, Oral, Pentavalent),” in February 2006 to prevent rotavirus gastroenteritis, followed by the Rotrix vaccine in 2010.

■ Rotavirus Infection Vaccination Methods

● It is recommended to administer the RotaTeq vaccine (PRV/Pentavalent rotavirus vaccine) at 2, 4, and 6 months of age for a total of three doses to prevent rotavirus gastroenteritis.

● Receive the first and second doses of the Rotrix vaccine.

● Rotavirus vaccination is a basic immunization administered to all infants.

● If three doses of RotaTeq vaccine were not administered as recommended (at 2, 4, and 6 months of age, respectively), the first dose should be administered at least between 6 and 12 months of age. The second dose should be administered 6 to 12 weeks after the first dose, and the third dose should be administered no later than 32 weeks of age.

■ Side Effects of Rotavirus Vaccination

● RotaTeq (Rotavirus Vaccine, Live, Oral, Pentavalent) vaccination provides almost 100% protection against severe rotavirus gastroenteritis.

● Vaccination can be administered even with a mild fever.

● Breastfed infants can also be vaccinated with RotaTeq vaccine.

For the sake of health promotion, one of the basic necessities of life for Koreans of all ages and genders in Korea and around the world, I believe it has been more than a century since the need for a parenting information bible, containing health promotion information in Korean that is easily accessible to anyone, anywhere, anytime.

If I have the time, I would like to give the entire Parenting Bible to every Korean family around the world.
