Supply of vitamins and minerals to newborns and infants

Supply of vitamins and minerals to newborns and infants

It is recommended that supplemental vitamin D (400 IU per day) be given to newborns or infants who are exclusively breastfed or partially breastfed from birth through weaning until the introduction of vitamin D-fortified whole milk.
It is also recommended to give 1 mg of iron per kg of body weight daily from 4 months of age until the introduction of iron-containing solid foods (usually at 6 months of age).
It is said that healthy children who eat a balanced, nutritious diet do not need to take vitamin or mineral supplements. JAMA 3/6/2018
