신생아 결막염 Neonatal conjunctivitis

신생아의 결막에 생긴 염증을 신생아 결막염(新生兒 結膜炎)이라고 한다.
바이러스 감염, 세균(박테리아) 감염, 또는 클라미디아 감염이 신생아의 결막에 생길 때 신생아 결막염이 생길 수 있다.
또 신생아의 눈에 바른 약물이나 화학물질 등으로 신생아 결막염이 생길 수 있다(p.00 신생아 임질균 결막염,

갓 태어난 신생아의 눈에 임질성 결막염이 생길 수 있다. 그 때문에 임질성 결막염을 예방하기 위해 갓 태어난 모든 신생아의 눈에 질산은 안약을 통상적으로 넣었던 때도 있었다.
이때 신생아 눈에 넣었던 질산은 안약으로 화학물질성 신생아 결막염이 자주 생겼다.
그러나 요즘 질산은 안약으로 임질성 결막염 예방적 치료를 통상적으로 하지 않고 있다.
출생 이후 바이러스나 박테리아 등의 병원체가 신생아 결막에 감염될 때 신생아 겸염성 결막염이 생길 수 있다. 신생아 결막염의 대부분은 분만 중 분만부의 산도 속에 있던 세균이 신생아의 결막에 감염되어 생긴다. 출생하기 전 세균이 모체에서 태아의 결막에 감염되어 신생아 결막염이 생길 수 있다.
비루관(Nasolacrimal duct)이 선천적으로 막힐 때 비루관 폐쇄(Nasolacrimal duct obstruction). 라고 한다. 비루관이 폐쇄되어 있는 쪽의 결막에 염증이 생겨 그로 인해 신생아 결막염이 생길 수 있다([부모도 반의사가 되어야 한다- 소아가정간호백과]-제19권 소아청소년 안과 질환- 비루도 통과부전 참조).

Inflammation of the conjunctiva in a newborn is called neonatal conjunctivitis.
Neonatal conjunctivitis can occur when a viral infection, bacterial infection, or chlamydial infection in the newborn’s conjunctiva occurs.
Neonatal conjunctivitis can also be caused by medications or chemicals applied to the newborn’s eyes (p. 00 Neonatal Gonococcal Conjunctivitis,
see Volume 19 Pediatric and Adolescent Ophthalmology – Neonatal Gonococcal Conjunctivitis).
Gonococcal conjunctivitis can occur in newborns. For this reason, silver nitrate eye drops were routinely administered to all newborns to prevent gonorrheal conjunctivitis.
At that time, the use of silver nitrate eye drops frequently resulted in chemical-induced neonatal conjunctivitis.
However, silver nitrate eye drops are no longer routinely used as a preventive treatment for gonorrheal conjunctivitis.
Neonatogenic conjunctivitis can occur after birth when pathogens such as viruses or bacteria infect the newborn’s conjunctiva. Most cases of neonatal conjunctivitis are caused by bacteria in the birth canal during delivery, which then infect the newborn’s conjunctiva. Neonatal conjunctivitis can also occur when bacteria from the mother infect the fetus’s conjunctiva before birth.
When the nasolacrimal duct is blocked congenitally, it is called nasolacrimal duct obstruction. Inflammation of the conjunctiva on the side of the blocked nasolacrimal duct can lead to neonatal conjunctivitis (see [Parents Should Become Doctors Too – Pediatric Home Nursing Encyclopedia] – Vol. 19, Pediatric and Adolescent Ophthalmic Diseases – Nasolacrimal Transit Insufficiency).

I believe that it has been over a century since we needed a parenting information bible in Korean that anyone can easily access and read anytime, anywhere to promote health, which is one of the basic necessities of life for Koreans of all ages and genders in Korea and around the world.
