특히 여행을 갈 때 음식물 섭취, 곤충에 물리거나 쏘임, 짐승에 물리고 야외 활동 중 생긴 감염병에 걸리지 않게 각별히 주의해야 한다.
■ 음료수나 음식물을 섭취한 후 걸릴 수 있는 감염병 예방
식수로 마실 수 있게 점증 처리되지 않은 수돗물이나 샘물을 마실 때-A형 간염, E형 간염, 대장균 감염병, 람불편모충 감염(람불편모충 증)에 걸일 수 있다.
저온 살균 처리가 되지 않은 우유나 우유제품을 먹으면 부르셀라증(Brucellosis), 살모넬라증(Salmonellosis), 리스테리아증(Listeriosis) 등에 걸릴 수 있다.
완전히 익히지 않은 고기나 생고기를 먹으면 시스터설코시스증(Cystercercosis), 선모충증, 장박테리아 감염병 등에 걸릴 수 있다.
■ 곤충 물림이나 곤충 쏘임, 또는 짐승에 물리면 감염될 수 있는 감염병
모기에 물리면-말라리아, 황 열, 뎅기 열, 사상충 증과 그 다른 아르보바이러스 감염병
모래파리(Sand fly)에 물리면-오로야 열(Oroya fever or Carrion’s Disease), 리슈마니아 증에 걸릴 수 있다
체체파리에 물리면 -아프리카 수면병에 걸릴 수 있다.
진드기에 물리면 병, 라임병, 큐열, 보렐리아증(Borreliosis), 에르리히증(Ehrlichiosis), 야토병(Tularemia), 콜로라도 진드기열 등에 걸릴 수 있다.
벼룩에 물리면 모래벼룩증(모래벼룩 기생증, tungiasis/sand flea infestation) 등에 걸릴 수 있다.
레두비이드스(Reduviids)에 물리면 트리파노소마증에 걸릴 수 있다.
먹파리(Black fly)에 물리면 증(Onchocerciasis)에 걸릴 수 있다.
진드기 마이트(Mite)에 물리면 쯔쯔가무시병(Scrub typhus)에 걸릴 수 있다.
이에 물리면 발진티푸스(Epidemic typhus), 참호열(trench fever)에 걸릴 수 있다.
짐승의 물이면 광견병, 야토병(Tularemia), 박테리아 봉와염(봉소염), 서교증(Rat bite fever. Haverhill fever, Spirillum minus sodoku) 등에 걸릴 수 있다.
■ 야외 활동 장소에서 다음과 같은 감염병에 걸릴 수 있다.
주혈흡충증(Schistosomiasis)을 아프리카 사람 1억 2천 명이 가지고 있다. 주혈흡충증 환자들의 2/3는 Schistosoma Haematobium에 의해 요로에 감염된다. 담수에 있는 유충에 접촉하면 이주혈흡충증에 걸릴 수 있다. 소스;NEJM 12/2019
그외 담수에서 렙토스피라증(Leptospirosis)
아프리카 경기 광장에서-말라리아, 리케치아, 히스토플라스마증(Histoplasmosis) 사상충증(Filariasis), 아라보바이러스 감염병
동굴에서- 히스토플라스마증(Histoplasmosis), 마르부르그 바이러스 감염병(Marburg Virus Disease)
강이나 물에서 온코헤르시아증(Onchocerciasis), 렙토스피라증(Leptospirosis).
모래, 진흙, 흙 땅에서-분선충증(Strongyloides stercoralis), 구충(Hookworm)증, 피부 유충 이행증(Cutaneous larva migrans)
체액에 노출: B형 간염, C형 간염, HIV 감염, 매독, 클레미디아 감염, 임질 등.

Infectious Diseases Contracted Through Food Intake, Insect Bites/Stings, Animal Bites, or Outdoor Activities—and Their Prevention
Prevention for infectious diseases due to food intake, insect bites, animal bites, and outdoor activities

Particular caution is required—especially when traveling—to avoid contracting infectious diseases resulting from food intake, insect bites or stings, animal bites, or outdoor activities.
■ Prevention of Infectious Diseases Contracted Through Food or Drink Consumption
Drinking tap water or spring water that has not undergone purification treatment suitable for potable use may lead to Hepatitis A, Hepatitis E, E. coli infections, or Giardiasis.
Consuming unpasteurized milk or dairy products may lead to Brucellosis, Salmonellosis, Listeriosis, and similar infections.
Consuming undercooked or raw meat may lead to Cysticercosis, Trichinosis, intestinal bacterial infections, and similar conditions.
■ Infectious Diseases Contracted Through Insect Bites/Stings or Animal Bites
Mosquito bites: Malaria, Yellow Fever, Dengue Fever, Filariasis, and various other arboviral infections.
Sand fly bites: Oroya Fever (Carrion’s Disease) and Leishmaniasis.
Tsetse fly bites: African Sleeping Sickness. Being bitten by a tick can lead to various diseases, including Lyme disease, Q fever, borreliosis, ehrlichiosis, tularemia, and Colorado tick fever.
Being bitten by a flea can result in conditions such as tungiasis (sand flea infestation).
Being bitten by a reduviid bug can lead to trypanosomiasis.
Being bitten by a black fly can lead to onchocerciasis.
Being bitten by a mite can lead to scrub typhus.
Being bitten by a louse can lead to epidemic typhus or trench fever.
Being bitten by an animal can lead to rabies, tularemia, bacterial cellulitis, or rat-bite fever (including Haverhill fever and *Spirillum minus* sodoku).
■ The following infectious diseases may be contracted in outdoor settings:
Approximately 120 million people in Africa are infected with schistosomiasis. Two-thirds of schistosomiasis patients suffer from urinary tract infections caused by *Schistosoma haematobium*. Contact with larvae present in fresh water can result in contracting this form of schistosomiasis. Source: NEJM 12/2019
Other: Leptospirosis in freshwater environments
In African game parks: Malaria, Rickettsial infections, Histoplasmosis, Filariasis, Arboviral infections
In caves: Histoplasmosis, Marburg Virus Disease
In rivers or water bodies: Onchocerciasis, Leptospirosis
In sand, mud, or soil: Strongyloidiasis (*Strongyloides stercoralis*), Hookworm infection, Cutaneous larva migrans
Exposure to bodily fluids: Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV infection, Syphilis, Chlamydia infection, Gonorrhea, etc.
