미국에서는 2010~2012년 동안 1년에 7,000명의 영아(출생 0~12개월)들이 죽었다.

만삭 출생 영아들의 사망 원인 중

43%는 영아 돌연사(SUDI)이었고

31%는 선천성 기형이었고

11%는 출생 전후기에 생긴 문제였다.

영아 돌연사(SUDI)의 원인의 42%는

영아돌연사의 증후군이었고

21%는 사고로 인한 질식과 목조임이었다.

특히 영아 돌연사에 관한 정보를 많이 알지 못하고 교육을 덜 받은 부모들의 영아들에게 영아 돌연사가 더 많이 발생했다. 소스 : AAP News 6/2018

In the United States, 7,000 infants (0-12 months old) died each year between 2010 and 2012.
Of the deaths of full-term infants,
43% were due to sudden infant death (SUDI),
31% were due to congenital anomalies,
11% were due to problems occurring before or after birth.

42% of SUDI cases were due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS),

and 21% were due to accidental suffocation and strangulation.
