모두가 적어도 반의사가 되어야 하는 때가 왔습니다
안면도 중장리 장등개 섬마을 농부엄마, 아버지로부터 태어난 9남매 자녀들 중 장남으로 태어나 14세부터 타관 홍성 중고교를 부모 및 가족으로 떨어저 다니고 서울 연세의대에 입학해 차취, 노동, 신문팔기, 책 팔기, 가정교사 등을 하고 무의촌 장학금, 학교 대여장하금 등으로 6년간 의과 대학을 다녔다.
겨울 추운 방에서 자고 의과 대학 6년 과정을 마추고 미국갈 수 있는 ECFMG 시험을 졸업 하던해 4년때 합격하고 동급동창들은 미국으로, 대학 병원 인턴으로 가는데 나는 졸업후에도 2년간 무의촌 봉사, 육군 3년간봉사 과정을 마춘후, 50 불을 호주머니에 넣고 부인과 두 아들을 한국에 놓고 도미. 미국 UCONN 의과대학 YALE 의과대학에서 소아과 수련 과정을 마추고 미국소아과 전문의가 되었다.
뿌라가 없는 하고시픈 것 하지 못 하고 미국에서 소아과 개인 병원을 차리고 의과 ,대학 임상 교수 직, 저서활동을 해 소아 가정 간호 백과( 1,076쪽) 등을 비롯한 소아 청소년 양호육아 건강관리 질병,예방, 자녀 사랑, 인성교육 에 관한 책 15 여권을 한글판으로 저술 하고, 4백만 여명의 회원을 가진 www.koreapediatrics.com 운영하고 이제는 영어판, 한글 판 www.drleepediatrics.com. 4만 페이지를 전세계 한인들과 70 억 인류들을 위해 운영 하고 있다.
나는 부모 형제 가족의 안영과 행복이 무엇 보다 중요 하다고 생각 하기에 부모 형제 자매들을 미국에 모시고 한 형제는 부라질로 모셨다. 태어나서 부터 그 동안 사는 동안 5 동생들은 이 세상에서 이미 떠나 갔다,
그중 몇 동생들이 이세상에 의사를 한번도 못보고 몇은 제대로 보지 못하고 이 세상에서 가는 것을 본 내 마음을 누가 다 알겠느가.
지금 시각 의사도 한 번 보지못하고 가정 간호 책 한 장의 도움도 보지 못하고 간 동생들을 생각 해 보세요.
나는 오늘 페이스 북을 통해 이 재명 씨는 아버지 없이 자란 분이란 것을 알았습니다. 조울증에 걸려 앓았다는 세째 동생. 아버지 없이 자란 분 불상해요. 엄마가 없어도 아빠가 없어도 소아들을, 사춘기 아이들을 사랑해 키워주는 나라를 만드세요. 한국도 그나라 어린이들을 건강히 안녕히 키우는 정책을 새 대통이 책임 지고 해야 합니다. 국가의 장차 우선 순위는 국방 아니고 어린 자녀들을
행복 하고 건강하게 키우는 것입니다.

The time has come—not only for parents, but for everyone—to become, at the very least, “half-doctors.”
I was born the eldest of nine children to a farming mother and father in Jangdeunggae, Jungjang-ri, on the island of Anmyeondo. From the age of 14, I lived apart from my parents and family to attend middle and high school in the distant town of Hongseong. Upon entering Yonsei University College of Medicine in Seoul, I supported myself through six years of medical school by living alone, working various manual jobs, selling newspapers and books, and working as a private tutor—relying on scholarships designated for students from underserved rural areas and university loan programs.
I endured sleeping in cold rooms during the winter throughout my medical studies. I passed the ECFMG exam—required for medical graduates wishing to practice in the U.S.—during my fourth year, well before graduation. While my classmates headed to the U.S. or began their internships at university hospitals immediately after graduating, I chose a different path: I spent two years providing medical service in underserved rural areas, followed by three years of mandatory military service in the Army. Only after completing these five years of service did I head to the United States—with just $50 in my pocket—leaving my wife and two sons behind in Korea. I completed my pediatric residency training at the University of Connecticut (UCONN) and Yale University Schools of Medicine, subsequently becoming a board-certified pediatrician in the United States. Despite the lack of a formal support system, I pursued my aspirations by establishing a private pediatric practice in the United States, serving as a clinical professor at a medical school, and engaging in extensive writing. I have authored over 15 books in Korean—including the 1,076-page *Encyclopedia of Pediatric Home Care*—covering topics such as child and adolescent rearing, health management, disease prevention, parental love, and character education. Furthermore, I founded and operated www.koreapediatrics.com, a website boasting over four million members; currently, I manage www.drleepediatrics.com—available in both English and Korean—which comprises 40,000 pages of content dedicated to Koreans worldwide and the global population of seven billion people.
Believing that the well-being and happiness of one’s parents, siblings, and family are paramount, I brought my parents and several siblings to live with me in the United States, while arranging for another sibling to settle in Brazil. Yet, over the course of my life—from my own birth until the present day—five of my younger siblings have already departed this world.
Who could truly comprehend the depth of my sorrow as I witnessed some of these siblings pass away without ever having seen a doctor, while others received only inadequate medical care?
Take a moment to reflect, right now, on those siblings who passed away without ever seeing a doctor or receiving even the slightest aid from a home care guide.
Today, through Facebook, I learned that Mr. Lee Jae-myung is someone who grew up without a father. I also learned of his third younger sibling who suffered from bipolar disorder. It is truly heartbreaking that he had to grow up without a father figure. I urge you to create a nation where children—whether they lack a mother or a father—are loved, nurtured, and raised with care. The new President of Korea must take full responsibility for implementing policies that ensure the healthy development and well-being of the nation’s children. A nation’s foremost priority for the future is not national defense, but rather raising its young children to be happy and healthy. More important than money, honor, or corporations is the task of raising children to be happy.
Please help bring the philosophy that “Parents, too, must become half-doctors” into the world.
From this moment forward, let the Republic of Korea take full national responsibility for every stage of family life—from planned marriage, pregnancy, and childbirth to the rearing, parenting, health management, disease prevention, and character education of children, spanning from newborns and toddlers to preschoolers, school-aged youth, and adolescents.

I will cast my vote for the presidential candidate who pledges to raise our children to be healthy and happy; once elected, I expect that candidate to faithfully fulfill that promise.
