소아과학 저서
연세의대를 졸업한 후 무의촌 2년간, 군의관 3년간 근무하고 1968년 미국 인턴 레지던트 연수 교육을 받으려고 미국에 왔을 때 연세의대 소아과에서 썼던 소아과학 교과서 Slobody, Pediatrics (502)를 파는 곳도 없고 의대생도 의사도 읽지 않았다.
그 대신 Nelson Pediatrics 교과서를 주로 썼다.
내가 처음 접한 Nelson Pediatrics Text Book은 판이었고 1589쪽이었다. 내가 지금 가지고 있는 Nelson 넬슨 최종판 19th판 2610쪽이다.
미국에서는 동네 소아과에 개업하는 의사는 매년마다 그 지방이나 다른 지방에 있는 의과대학이나 큰 종합병원에서 최신 소아과학을 연 50시간 정도 공부해야 한다.
그러면 개업을 계속할 수 있고 환자를 입·퇴원시킬 수 있는 Staff 자격을 준다.
그와 동시에 최신 소아과학 교과서에서는 최신 소아과 정보를 다 얻을 수 없기 때문에 매달 나오는 소아과 져날 등을 읽고 나날이 소아과 연수 교육을 그 지방 병원에서 받는다.
미국에 온 후 서울대학교 소아과 교수 홍창의와 연세대학교 교수 김길영 등 한국 유명 소아과학 교수들이 소아과학 한글판도 공저로 출판했다.
나는 한국 역사상 처음으로 소아 가정 간호 의학 백과와 제2판 소아 가정 간호 백과- 부모도 반의사가 돼야 한다를 저작 출판했다.
그리고 나는 Drleepediatrics.com-부모도 반의사가 되어야 한다(약 10만 쪽 영어 한글) 소아청소년 웹사이트를 운영한다. 나는 약 2만 권이 되는 의료 서적도 소장하고 있다.

Pediatric Literature
After graduating from Yonsei University College of Medicine, I spent two years serving in an underserved rural area and three years as a military physician. When I arrived in the United States in 1968 to undergo internship and residency training, I discovered that the *Slobody: Pediatrics* textbook (502 pages)—the very book we had used in the Pediatrics Department at Yonsei—was neither sold anywhere in the U.S. nor read by any medical students or physicians there.
Instead, the *Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics* was the primary reference in use.
The first edition of *Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics* I encountered was the 9th edition, comprising 1,589 pages. The latest edition I currently own is the 19th edition, which runs to 2,610 pages.
In the United States, physicians in private pediatric practice are required to complete approximately 50 hours of continuing medical education in pediatrics annually. This training is typically undertaken at medical schools or major general hospitals located either within their local region or in other areas.
Successful completion of this requirement grants them “Staff Privileges,” allowing them to maintain their practice and retain the authority to admit and discharge patients at affiliated hospitals.
Furthermore—since even the most up-to-date textbooks cannot encompass every piece of the latest pediatric information—physicians supplement their knowledge by reading monthly pediatric journals and by participating in ongoing, day-to-day continuing education programs at local hospitals. After moving to the United States, I co-authored and published a Korean-language edition of a pediatrics textbook alongside renowned Korean professors of pediatrics—including Hong Chang-ui of Seoul National University and Kim Gil-young of Yonsei University.
I also authored and published *The Encyclopedia of Pediatric Home Care Medicine*—the first of its kind in Korean history—as well as its second edition, titled *The Encyclopedia of Pediatric Home Care: Parents, Too, Should Be Half-Doctors.*
Furthermore, I operate the pediatric and adolescent health website Drleepediatrics.com (titled *Parents, Too, Should Be Half-Doctors*), which features approximately 100,000 pages of content in both English and Korean. I also maintain a personal library comprising approximately 20,000 medical books.
