What is Rinvoq?

What Conditions Does Rinvoq Treat?
Rinvoq is FDA-approved to treat the following inflammatory conditions:
In Adults
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
For patients who haven’t responded to or can’t tolerate TNF blocker medications. Can be used alone or with methotrexate.
Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA)
When previous TNF blocker treatment wasn’t effective or caused intolerance.
Ulcerative Colitis (UC)
Moderate to severe UC in adults who haven’t responded to or can’t tolerate TNF blockers. If TNF blockers aren’t medically appropriate, patients must try at least one other approved therapy first.
Crohn’s Disease (CD)
Moderate to severe CD when TNF blockers haven’t worked or aren’t tolerated. Alternative therapy required first if TNF blockers aren’t suitable.
Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS)
For patients with inadequate response to TNF inhibitors.
Non-radiographic Axial Spondyloarthritis
Active disease causing pain and inflammation without X-ray changes, when TNF blockers haven’t been effective.
Giant Cell Arteritis
Used with or following corticosteroid treatment.
Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema)
Moderate to severe cases in adults and children 12+ years when other treatments haven’t worked.
In Children
Polyarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
For children 2 years and older who haven’t responded to TNF blockers.
Psoriatic Arthritis
For children 2-17 years weighing at least 10 kg, dosed by body weight.

Important Safety Warnings
Black Box Warnings
Rinvoq carries the FDA’s most serious warning for:
Serious Infections
Can lead to hospitalization or death. Risk is higher with 30 mg and 45 mg doses. Don’t start Rinvoq if you have any active infection.
Increased Mortality
Higher death rates observed in people 50+ with heart disease risk factors taking JAK inhibitors.
Cancer Risk
Increased risk of lymphoma and other cancers, especially in current or past smokers.
Blood Clots
Risk of clots in lungs, legs, and arteries. The highest risk is in people 50+ with heart disease risk factors.
Heart Problems
Increased risk of heart attack and stroke, particularly in current or past smokers over 50.
When to Seek Emergency Care
Call 911 or go to the ER if you experience:
Heart Attack Signs:
- Chest pain or pressure
- Pain spreading to the jaw or the shoulder
- Nausea and sweating
Stroke Signs:
- Sudden numbness or weakness (especially one-sided)
