내 고향 안면도에서 농사 지면서 살고 싶어요.
갯 바닥 펄 땅에서 능정이 황발이 잡아다 간장에 담아 이로 깨무로 먹고
바닷 가에서 고등을 잡아 까서 낙시 입값으로 망둥어를, 장어를 나까
소금에 저려 말려 쩌 먹고
앞산 뒷산에 핀 두릅 나물을 따다 파 마늘 고추 간장에 무쳐 먹던 안년도 장등개서 살테요.
창출, 반하, 복량을 캐다 보약으로 다려서 먹고 몸을 보호하고
앞 뒷산에 만발한 봄 진달 꽃다발,
하나님이 보내신 찔레꽃 다발 산속에서 살던
내 고향 장등개에서 살고 시퍼요
가을이 오면 산에서 머루랑 다래를 따다 먹고
산밤을 따다 살머 먹던
내고향에서 장등개에서 살고 싶어요
도토리를 따다 묵을 쑤어 먹고
밭에서 단감자를 캐다 먹던

하침 저녁 눈이 오건 비가 오던 걸어서
2삼십리 떨어진 초등 학교를 6년간 다니던 그때가 조하요
이런 강촌에서 연세 의대를 다닐 때 안면도 섬놈이라고…………………

To Jangdeunggae beach in Anmyeondo, my hometown.
I don’t belong in America.
I want to live in my father’s thatched-roof house.
I want to live in my hometown of Anmyeondo, where there are no telephones,
no computers,
no refrigerators,
no libraries,
and farm the land.
I want to catch crabs and clams from the muddy tidal flats, soak them in soy sauce, and eat them by biting them with my teeth.
I want to catch mackerel at the beach, gut them, and use them as bait to catch mudskippers and eels,
then salt and dry them, and steam them to eat.
I want to live in Jangdeunggae, Anmyeondo, where I used to pick wild vegetables from the mountains in front and behind my house, and mix them with green onions, garlic, chili peppers, and soy sauce to eat. Digging up Atractylodes, Pinellia, and Poria, brewing them into a tonic to nourish and protect my body,
Surrounded by bouquets of spring azaleas blooming on the front and back mountains,
And bouquets of wild roses sent by God, I want to live in my hometown, Jangdeunggae, where I used to live in the mountains.
When autumn comes, I want to pick and eat wild grapes and kiwis from the mountains,
And eat boiled chestnuts from the mountains,
I want to live in my hometown, Jangdeunggae.
I want to live in a thatched-roof house in Jangdeunggae, making and eating acorn jelly,
And digging up sweet potatoes from the field.
More than listening to “Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile Now” country music,
I long for my hometown in the southern country where wild roses bloom red…

I want to eat wild vegetables and drink spring water, and live on Anmyeondo Island.
I miss the thatched-roof house where we ate barley made from barley pounded with a mortar and pestle.
I cherish the time when I walked to elementary school, 20 or 30 li away, every morning and evening, rain or shine, for six years.
Even though I attended Yonsei University Medical School from this kind of rural village, being called a “country bumpkin from Anmyeondo Island”…
Even though this Anmyeondo native has published Drleepediatrics.com, 100,000 pages,
And more than ten volumes of parenting encyclopedias,
