그는 정말로 Inspiration하고 특출나게 좋은 인간성을 가졌다. 그는 우선 가족을 사랑하는 것이 중요하다는 것을 알고 부모님과 형제 자매 조카들까지 미국으로 이민시켰다. 또한 그지방 주민들과 커네티컷 주 한인들을 물심양면으로 힘껏 돕는 일을 했다. 그는 정말 모범적인 의사이고 좋은 인간성을 지닌 의사이며, 좋은 인간이다.
커네티컷 주지사 Governor John G Roland은 2003년 12월 22일을 커네티컷 주 Dr. John Sangwon Lee Day로 선포하며 커네티컷 전 시민이 그를 축하하기 바란다고 말했다.
참고로 이상원 의사는 의사가 된 후, 약 50여 만명 이상 환자들의 건강증진 관리, 진료를 했으나 단 한건의 의료 사고나 진료 문제로 법적 문제가 생기지 않았다. 또 환자나 보호자로부터 서신 불평도 받은 적 없다. 하나님 감사합니다.”

Regarding pediatrician Dr. John Sangwon Lee:
“Connecticut Governor John G. Rowland hosted an event to celebrate Dr. Lee, which included raising the South Korean flag at the State Capitol and inviting members of the Korean community—specifically the officers and families of the Korean Association of Connecticut. Over the past 32 years, Dr. Lee has demonstrated exceptional skill as a physician. He strove to be a source of spiritual guidance for both local residents and the Korean diaspora, possessing a wealth of knowledge alongside a compassionate and empathetic nature.
He is truly an inspiring figure with an outstanding character. Recognizing the importance of family, he helped his parents, siblings, and even his nieces and nephews immigrate to the United States. He also dedicated himself to providing wholehearted support—both material and emotional—to local residents and the Korean community in Connecticut. He is a truly exemplary physician, a doctor of great character, and a wonderful human being.
Governor John G. Rowland proclaimed December 22, 2003, as ‘Dr. John Sangwon Lee Day’ in Connecticut, expressing his hope that all citizens of the state would join in celebrating him.
Notably, throughout his career, Dr. Lee has treated and managed the health of over 500,000 patients without a single instance of medical malpractice or legal issue arising from his care. He has never received a written complaint from a patient or a patient’s guardian. Thank you, God.”
