■ 원인
헤르페스바이러스(단순 헤르페스바이러스/Herpes simplex virus)를 허피스바이러스, 단순 포진 바이러스, 헐피스 바이러스, 단순 헤르페스 바이러스 또는 (수)포진 바이러스라고 부르기도 한다. 헤르페스바이러스 감염에 의해 생긴 급성 바이러스 감염병을 단순 포진바이러스 감염병, 단순 포진, 또는 허피스바이러스 감염병이라고도 한다.

■ 헤르페스바이러스의 종류
헤르페스바이러스를 크게 두 가지 형으로 나눈다. 즉, 1형 헤르페스바이러스와 2형 헤르페스바이러스가 있다.

■ 헤르페스바이러스 감염병의 종류

■ 1형 헤르페스바이러스 감염병
1. 1형 헤르페스바이러스는 배꼽의 위 상체에 주로 감염병을 일으킨다. 헤르페스 구내염(헐퍼스성 치은구강염)이나 입술 주위에 생기는 단순 포진 바이러스 감염병(열성 포진/Fever blister/콜드 소어/Cold sore) 등은 1형 헤르페스바이러스 감염으로 생긴다.
2. 1형 헤르페스바이러스 피부 발진이나 헤르페스바이러스 치은구내염(헤르페스 바이러스 치은구내염) 등이 생겼을 때 그 환부를 육안으로 보고 어떤 형의 헤르페스바이러스 감염으로 생긴 헤르페스 치은구내염인지 또는 어떤 형의 헤르페스바이러스 감염병으로 생긴 피부 발진인지 확실히 감별 진단하기 곤란한 때가 많다.
3. 그러나 1형 헤르페스바이러스 감염병이나 2형 헤르페스바이러스 감염병이 상체나 하체를 가리지 않고 신체 어느 부위에도 생길 수 있다.

1. 2형 헤르페스바이러스 감염병은 주로 배꼽의 아래에 있는 하체에 생긴다.
2. 특히 성인들의 외부 생식기에 감염되어 거기에 2형 헤르페스바이러스 감염병을 일으킬 수 있다.
3. 즉 2형 헤르페스바이러스는 주로 성인 남녀 외부생식기에 헤르페스바이러스 발진을 일으킨다.
4. 신생아에게 생기는 헤르페스바이러스 감염의 주원인도 2형 헤르페스바이러스 감염이다.
5. 2형 헤르페스바이러스 질염이나 외음부염이 있는 임산부로부터 태어난 신생아에게 2형 헤르페스바이러스 뇌염이나 2형 헤르페스바이러스 피부염이 심하게 생길 수 있고 그로 인해 사망할 수 있다.

6. 2형 헤르페스바이러스 외음부염이 있는 성인 남녀가 오랄 섹스를 할 때 2형 헤르페스바이러스가 입안에도 감염되어 2형 헤르페스바이러스 구강염(구내염)이 생길 수도 있고 또 인두염도 생길 수 있다.

■ Cause
The herpes simplex virus is also called herpesvirus, simple herpes virus, or (vesicular) herpes virus. Acute viral infections caused by herpes simplex virus infection are also called herpes simplex virus infection, herpes simplex, or herpesvirus infection.

■ Types of Herpes Simplex Virus
Herpes simplex viruses are broadly divided into two types: Type 1 herpes simplex virus and Type 2 herpes simplex virus.

■ Type 1 Herpes Simplex Virus Infection
1. Type 1 herpes simplex virus mainly causes infections in the upper body above the navel. 1. Type 2 herpes simplex virus infection mainly occurs in the lower body below the navel.
