Changing status in the priorty of the life in the successful couples in from 1990 to 2007
(일부 출처: Pew Research center 참조문헌; July 1, 2007 The Hartford Courant)

Changes in Life Priorities of Successful American Couples (1990-2007)
Changing status in the priority of life among successful couples from 1990 to 2007
Changes in Life Priorities of Successful American Couples (1990-2007)

① Trustworthiness 95%
② Enjoyable sex life between spouses 67%
③ Shared household responsibilities 47%
④ Adequate income 46%
⑤ Good housing 42%
⑥ Shared religious beliefs 45%
⑦ Shared hobbies and recreation 43%
⑧ Children 65%
⑨ Shared political views 11% These were the important priorities in the lives of married couples.
2007 Life Priorities of Successful American Couples
① Trustworthiness 93%
② Enjoyable sex life between spouses 70%
③ Shared household responsibilities 62%
④ Adequate income 53%
⑤ Good housing 51%
⑥ Religious beliefs 49%
⑦ Shared hobbies and recreation 46%
⑧ Children 41%
⑨ Shared political views 12% The order of importance of these priorities in married life changed.
In these two studies, over the 17 years from 1990 to 2007, the importance of children decreased by 24%. Looking at the results of this study in more detail:
In the lives of successfully married couples, children are the ninth most important priority. This study shows that the division of household chores, a good home, adequate income, a satisfying sex life between spouses, and mutual trust are far more important priorities in married life than raising children.
According to a similar study conducted in 1990 using the same World Values Survey, raising children was the third most important priority in married life.
In that study, 65% of parents responded that raising children was a very important priority in their lives.
Three-quarters of Americans said that the main purpose of marriage is not to conceive and raise children, but rather to enjoy a happy life together and have a fulfilling sex life.
Recently, there has been a change in the values surrounding child-rearing. People are beginning to question whether parents necessarily need to make sacrifices for their children.
There is an increase in children born out of wedlock.
There is also an increase in extramarital relationships.
This partially demonstrates that children are not the highest priority or even very important in their lives.
According to US birth statistics in 2005, 37% of children were born to unmarried women.
This is a 5% increase from 1960.
In 2005, 50% of unmarried adults in their 30s and 40s were in cohabiting relationships.
71% of Americans are very concerned about the social problems caused by the increase in single mothers.
69% of Americans believe that children grow up happier when raised by both a mother and a father. (Some sources: Pew Research Center references; July 1, 2007 The Hartford Courant)
We cannot simply stand by and watch the problems that our adolescent and teenage children are facing today.
It’s not too late.
We must help our adolescent children grow with hope.
We must guide them to live with healthy self-esteem and to do their best. To do this, we have much to do. There is no other magic cure or method.
First, parents must maintain a harmonious marital relationship and show their children a stable bond of love between husband and wife.
Only then can children feel secure and be happy.
Second, parents must give their children unconditional and genuine love so that they feel they are receiving true love and care from their parents.
Third, parents must be aware that they may unknowingly be giving their children the wrong kind of love, such as possessive love, vicarious love, role-reversal love, or seductive love.
They must understand that this kind of wrong love is extremely harmful to their children’s growth and pursuit of independence, and they must raise them with unconditional, genuine love.
Fourth, parents and their beloved adolescent children must communicate effectively through healthy dialogue.
Through verbal communication, nonverbal communication, and body language, they must communicate well with each other to appropriately address the problems that adolescent children have deep in their hearts and strive to prevent further problems from arising. Fifth, parents, teachers, the older generation, and society and the nation as a whole must all set a good example for children and train them with love so that they can grow up with healthy self-esteem and become productive members of society.
Sixth, all children are born with nine innate temperaments. Parents should understand that some children are more difficult to raise than others, and that every child’s personality falls within a range of 25th to 75th percentile. Parents should strive to guide and nurture their children according to their temperament and personality.
It’s also important to understand that some adolescents, due to their innate temperament and personality, may not be able to properly receive training, even with appropriate guidance and love from parents, teachers, and the older generation.
Furthermore, adolescents with mental or physical problems may also have difficulty receiving proper training, even with loving guidance. In such cases, professional help is necessary.
Today, many adults and children and adolescents may have mental, emotional, and psychological problems. Adolescents are no exception. Sometimes, professional help is absolutely necessary to properly train them.
Fortunately, there are far more adolescents who grow up receiving unconditional, genuine love and become productive members of society than those who have problems.
