몇 번이나 용서하리이까? (마 18:21-35) 베드로가 예수님에게 물었습니다. “형제가 내게 죄를 범하면 몇 번이나 용서하여 주리이까 일곱 번까지 하오리이까?” 율법에는 세 번까지 용서하면 충분하다고 기록되어 있었습니다. 그는 주님의 칭찬을 듣고 싶어서 일곱 번까지 용서하면 되겠느냐고 물었던 것 같습니다. 그런데 그의 기대는 완전히 어긋나고 말았습니다. 주님의 대답은 전혀 다른 것이었습니다. 주님이 뭐라고 대답하셨습니까? “일곱 번뿐 아니라 일곱 번을 일흔 번까지라도 할지니라.” 그렇습니다! 진짜 용서에는 끝이 없다고 주님은 분명히 말씀하셨습니다.
