Description:
This illustration, created at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), reveals the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by coronaviruses.

The primary symptoms observed in 171 laboratory-confirmed pediatric patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection were cough, pharyngeal erythema, and fever; notably, 16% of these children were asymptomatic.
The following clinical characteristics were observed in pediatric SARS-CoV-2 patients in Wuhan, China:
Between January and February 26, 2020, a total of 1,391 pediatric patients were evaluated; of these, 171—or 12%—were confirmed via laboratory testing to have SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Of the confirmed cases, 60% were male.
The median age of the pediatric patients was 7 years.
The age range spanned from 1 to 15 years.
Twenty-seven of the laboratory-confirmed pediatric patients (16%) were asymptomatic and showed no signs of pneumonia.
The most common symptoms were cough (49%) and fever (42%).
Only 9% of the pediatric patients presented with a fever exceeding 39°C.
Symptoms such as diarrhea, fatigue, rhinorrhea, vomiting, and nasal congestion were not commonly observed.
One hundred and eleven pediatric patients presented with pneumonia; among them, 12 were asymptomatic.
Laboratory blood tests did not reveal any specific markers, though lymphopenia was observed.
Chest CT scans revealed abnormal findings in 33% of the pediatric patients. Three pediatric patients received treatment in the intensive care unit and had underlying medical conditions.
A 10-month-old infant received inpatient treatment for four weeks but passed away.
While children infected with SARS-CoV-2 generally experience less severe illness compared to adult patients, those who developed pneumonia may face complications following their recovery.
