Temper Tantrum
■ Causes of Temper Tantrum
Anger is called rage.
Anyone can become angry.
It’s normal to feel angry.
However, sometimes the way we express our anger can be problematic.
As we go about our daily lives, most adults and children and adolescents, when they become angry, usually express their anger appropriately for their age.
When a young child becomes angry, parents should nurture them with unconditional love and teach them to express their anger appropriately.
However, many parents believe that their children will naturally learn how to express their anger appropriately. This is a misconception.
Some children and adolescents act like polite adults, not showing any outward expression of anger.
Many parents mistakenly believe that their children are expressing their anger appropriately when they display passive-aggressive behavior. When children cry out of anger, if they are soothed and lovingly trained to express their anger appropriately, the anger will usually subside and the crying will stop.
Some children do not express their anger appropriately, or even know how to express it properly.
Some children may even express their anger so intensely that neither their parents nor anyone else can calm them down.
This type of anger is called a tantrum.
Some parents grant their children almost everything they ask for.
Even after recovering from an illness, the child may retain many of the same behaviors they had while ill. This phenomenon is especially prevalent in children who have not received true, unconditional love.
When a young child demands something they shouldn’t have or does something they shouldn’t, and their parents don’t comply, the child may experience a tantrum. When parents discipline their children to correct misbehavior, if they set different rules and teach according to them without their consent, or if they suppress their children’s anger in front of them, this can lead to tantrums.
Some parents overly criticize and interfere with their children’s every action and worry unnecessarily about every problem they encounter.
This type of parent-child relationship can make children more prone to tantrums.
For example, some parents force their five-year-old to the bathroom while they’re having fun with friends, fearing they might need to urinate.
Tantrums can also occur when parents fail to respect, or even ignore, their young children’s right to grow naturally, or when they treat their children as if they were their own property (see [Parents Should Be Anti-Doctors Too – Encyclopedia of Pediatric and Family Nursing] – Volume 22: Raising Your Sons and Daughters This Way – Possessive Love). Some children become easily angry or experience temper tantrums when they are extremely tired, hungry, or sick.
■ Signs and Symptoms of Temper Tantrums
Tantrums most commonly occur in children under the age of four.
Symptoms vary. During a temper tantrum, a child may lie on the floor, kick anything in their path, scream, or cry loudly.
In rare cases, a temper tantrum may cause a brief pause in breathing, resulting in apnea. Others may lose consciousness for two to three minutes before regaining consciousness naturally.
■ Treatment of Temper Tantrums
When training young children, parents should avoid excessively restricting their behavior in ways that are inappropriate for their age.
Parents should not force their children to play indoors, preventing them from accessing safe spaces where they are supposed to be, nor should they force them into age-inappropriate training.
Parents should be aware of the developmental milestones of their children’s age. Parents should not raise their children with possessive love, or misguided love, nor should they discipline their children with conflicting opinions or parenting guidelines.
Parents should train and educate their children while respecting their rights and opinions.
During a child’s tantrum, parents should not immediately soothe the tantrum with gentle words. Instead, they should observe the child carefully from a nearby room until the tantrum has ended. After the tantrum has ended, when the child seeks their parent or seeks their love, they should provide loving eye contact, physical contact, and loving, gentle words to the child, training them to express their anger appropriately.
Nor should they simply give in to every demand made by a child while angry.
After the tantrum has ended, they should be taught how to properly handle anger.
Even when a child demands something and then becomes angry, they should be taught how to express that anger appropriately.
Children have the right to be properly trained by their parents, and parents have the responsibility to provide proper training. Just because someone is having a temper tantrum doesn’t mean you should give in to their child’s misbehavior or unreasonable demands.
The principle that training must be done with love applies here as well.

I believe that it has been over a century since we needed a parenting information bible in Korean that anyone can easily access and read, anytime, anywhere, to promote health, one of the basic necessities of life for Koreans of all ages and genders in Korea and around the world.
If I have the time, I would like to give a copy of the Parenting Bible to every Korean family around the world.
If I have the time, I would like to give a copy of the Parenting Bible to every Korean family around the world.
If I have the time, I would like to share the Parenting Bible with my beloved Korean parents. I’d like to read it all out loud.
Of course, there may be some shortcomings. I am confident that if you refer to other parenting bibles while raising your children, they will undoubtedly grow up happily.
